In November 2018, voters residing within the Modesto City Elementary District boundaries overwhelmingly voted to pass two bond measures. Measures D & E will provide $131 million to repair and upgrade our aging elementary and junior high school education facilities. The projects will help ensure healthy and safe school environments geared toward 21st century learning.

Measure D includes $74 million in bonds for health and safety improvements at 22 elementary schools and four middle schools. The oldest school to be repaired is Wilson Elementary, which was built nearly 100 years ago in 1929. The newest is Hanshaw Middle School, which is more than 30 years old.

Measure D repairs include:

• fixing leaking roofs

• improving fire, emergency, and security camera systems

• providing accessibility for students with disabilities

• updating cafeterias, plumbing, heating and cooling

• updating eletrical systems.

Measure E includes $57 million in bonds to update classrooms and science labs to support quality instruction in math, science, reading, and writing.

Measure E upgrades include:

• replacing aging portables with permanent classrooms

• equipping classrooms with technology to support 21st century jobs.
